Who We Are

The University of Limerick Orchestra (ULO) is an amateur, community orchestra, funded by the University of Limerick. The players are made up of students and staff from the University, Mary Immaculate College, the Limerick Municipal School of Music, other music schools across the region, and members of the greater Limerick community.

ULO has collaborated with many nationally and internationally-renowned soloists including vocalists Suzanne Murphy and Regina Nathan, violinist Oonagh Keogh, Nicola Sweeney, accordionist Dermot Dunne, and more recently trumpeter Mark O Keefe, flautist Evelyn Grant, harpist Jean Kelly and guitarist Redmond O Toole.

The orchestra performs three concerts every year. Two of these concerts are held in the University Concert hall (UCH). The first in early December (Christmas concert) and the second in early May (Prom Concert). The third concert, which is a repeat of the May programme is a charity concert, held in a community venue in the greater Munster region. The orchestra has performed in Ennis, Kilkee, Adare, Listowel and Charleville to name but a few. The ULO has raised thousands of Euros for charities such as Alzheimer, cancer, dialysis, hospice care and other local charity fundraisers

ULO always welcomes new members from within the university as well as members of the community. Enquiries can be made to the Orchestra Manager: Peter Hanley.

ULO would like to thank the University for its continued commitment and funding, which represents a major investment in the cultural and artistic life of the University and the region, and also to acknowledge the Irish Chamber Orchestra for its generosity in providing its studio for ULO rehearsals.
